The School Chaplain (Emer Dunne)

The School Chaplain is a caring faith presence in the school community who is available to all students, staff and parents and their families. The Chaplain accompanies members of the school community on their unique journey through life and has a special role in developing the spirituality of students in providing a Christian witness. The Chaplain offers support to all students and staff of all religious backgrounds and / or none.

The Chaplain participates in activities which relate to well-being and development of the school community, e.g. pastoral care meetings, student support team, school planning, evaluation and in-service. The Chaplain shares with the Principal and staff the responsibility of creating a caring school community which will enable each student to reach their full potential. The Chaplain is there for all especially to accompany people at emotional and traumatic times in their lives (e.g. bereavement or relationship difficulties).

As well as celebrating the key moments in the liturgical year, teaching, visitation of homes, retreats and celebrations, pastoral counselling / guidance, meeting with class groups and involvements with various programmes (e.g. 6th Year Leadership Programme, T.Y Programme, Transition Year Faith Friends Programme, Lourdes Youth Helpers, Ardmore Pilgrim Walk and other social outreach programmes) the Chaplain is always available to meet with students, staff and parents as the need arises.

The Chaplain is committed to working closely with the R.E team and in collaboration with the various students support structures and personnel within the school community. The school chapel is available to all members of the school community for quiet time, prayer or reflection.

Prayer for Guidance

Lord, I know that you love me
and have great plans for me.
But sometimes I am overwhelmed
by the thought of my future.
Show me how to walk forward
one day at a time.
May I hear your call
to a life which will allow me
to love as only I can,
And allow me to serve others
with the special gifts
you have given me.
Amen.
