In Memoriam of
Martin Hennessy (RIP)
Friend & Colleague
Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal
16th November 2021
Dear friends, it is with great sadness this morning we learned of the death of a great friend and colleague of Pobalscoil former caretaker of this school Martin Hennessy.
We all have very fond memories of Martin, as he walked with us along these hallways and classrooms looking after us all: talking with us, whistling and even singing! – always happy in his work here.
We pause for a few moments to acknowledge him and all that he has done in this school for all of us; we pause remember his family who mourn his passing this day as we hold them in our hearts at this time. In our sacred space today we have placed one of those iconic photos taken of him here in this school his workplace, a candle lights before it now in memory of Martin as we pray in thanks for what he meant to us and all of you staff and students today.
Lord Jesus you know the darkness of grief, the pain of emptiness that fill our hearts this morning as we grieve the passing of Martin. We thank you for the gifts we have received through Martin. We treasure the memories we have and now place Martin before you. Grant strength to us for our journey, and help us to be aware of your presence when all seems dark and hopeless.
Loving Father to you the dead still live and, in death our life is changed-not ended. We believe that all that binds us together in love and friendship does not end with death. As you have made each of us in your image and likeness and have called each of us by name, hold Martin safely in your love in your Kingdom of light, happiness and peace. Grant Martin Rest, and a place with the spirits of the just; and give him the life that knows no age, the reward that passes not away.
For all who mourn and are in pain in grief today Lord, bring courage and strength, bring them your inner peace and lead Martin into your Kingdom through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Eternal Rest Grant unto him O Lord, may perpetual light shine upon him, may he Rest in Peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
