Assessment of Junior Certificate Science

There are three areas of assessment:

1. Coursework A: 10%
A laboratory notebook with a record of the thirty specified mandatory experiments and investigations must be available for inspection.

2. Coursework B: 25%
In their third year, students will undertake two specified investigations and must submit a report on each for assessment.

The areas for investigation are expected to be made known early next January. The investigations must be completed in class and within eight weeks.

Students may submit an investigation of their own choice if it meets the requirements.

3. Terminal Examination Paper: 65%
