The benefits of studying a language are varied, apart from university requirements. Studying a language raises cultural awareness and the development of language skills. French is very helpful for students preparing for medical and legal professions.
Fluency in a language also makes travel infinitely
more enjoyable. We are fortunate in Pobalscoil na Tríonóide to have our French
department headed by a native French speaker. We are part of the French
Assistants’ programme whereby a native French speaker may be appointed to
assist in language classes in our school.
Assessment
12 minute oral exam in March / April
of Leaving Cert year.
Terminal exam consisting of a Listening
comprehension (35mins),
Reading. Comprehension,
and Written Expression.
Careers with Languages
Business Careers, Teacher, Translator, Pilot, Journalist, Dept. of Foreign Affairs,
Librarian, Archivist, Bilingual Secretary, Hotel Receptionist, Tourism, Law with
Languages and International Marketing.
