Canoeing trip to Lismore

 As part of their Leisure and Recreation Course, our 6^th Year Leaving Cert Applied students ventured out to Lismore on Monday 14^th May. They canoed the meandering and fast running stretch of  the Blackwater  water to Cappoquin  in a record time of one and a half hours.

The 2 man Canadian canoes were tricky to handle as Peter and Karl found out as they bravely  set off first and headed straight for the trees on the opposite bank. A tough first leg upstream to the castle was won by Mr. Coles and Shannon O’Sullivan.

Sinead McCarthy and Martin Foley brought up the rear with Sinead’s paddle looking suspiciously dry at the finish.

Big thanks to Mr. Coles and Ms. Dahill who assisted on the trip and to Dennis Murray and Mick who looked after us for the day. A great time was had by all and we will see you again in the future lads……..

May 14th 2012: In-School Review of Special Needs Assistant Provision/Support

Mr Gerry Lennox, Special Educational Needs Officer, will be visiting the school to assess SNA provisions for the forthcoming year. 1st Year Ladies Football

Week: 1st MayThe first year ladies football team competed in a county ladies football blitz on Friday 27th of April. We reached the final of the C grade competition and were narrowly beaten by Blarney in the final by a goal. The girls played outstanding on the day and represented their school very well.

The team were two points down at half-time.  Darragh O’Connell scored two goals in the second half.  John Paul Lucey was brought on as a substitute in the second half and made a good contribution.  Darragh O’Brien played a central role at centre back where he commanded the area and made many a good delivery to the forwards.

Under 14 boys football team 2011/2012.
Pobalscoil played Rosscarberry at home. The first half Pobalscoil played some excellent football. We were winning at half time but the wind picked up and we were beaten in the second half. Well done to all involved.

Pobalscoil put up a good battle in the second half against a strong wind but lost the game.

Pobalscoil senior ladies football Result

Pobalscoil senior ladies football played st ALS carrigtwohill at home on wed 23rd nov. With a strong wind in the first half pobalscoil lead by a point at half time.

A very tough second half saw pobalscoil go down 6 points and then come back to level the game.

Unfortunately we lost a tough challenging game by a point and were knocked out of the competition.

Week 14th Nov

A win for Under 14 boy’s football team. Match result (Nov 18, 2011) Mallow: 7-5 (26) Pobalscoil: 8-4 (28). Great team effort against a strong Mallow team.

Weather was very bad but against a strong wind Pobalscoil got a goal in the last kick of the game to win the game.

6th Yr Economics Guest Speaker

He outlined the importance of the foreign direct investment to the Irish economy.
He gave a concise summary of the latest figures and information from Census 2011.
It was based on a presentation given to our policy makers in the houses of the Oireachtas in February.
We were grateful  for his time and excellent presentation  which held the attention of the 6th year economics class for the double class. All concurred it to being an excellent delivery of economic material appropriate to June exams.

CLASS 1A5 WELCOME MR PATRICK MCCARTHY OF YOUGHAL AMBULANCE

On March 27th,  class 1A5 along with their teacher Ms Ryan welcomed Mr Patrick McCarthy, a paramedic with Youghal ambulance to their CSPE class. From Mr McCarthy we learned about the job of a paramedic and the skills one needs to become a paramedic. Mr McCarthy had an ambulance with him and the class were thrilled to get the chance to see the ambulance and the equipment. Well done to all involved.

 Eoin Coyne to the class for a speech. We learned alot from Mr Coyne about the day to day job of a mayor and had time to ask Mr Coyne some questions at the end. Well done to all involved.
