Bua Iontach ag Daltaí 1AG i gComórtas SciFest i CIT

Ar an 19ú Aibreán ghlac cúigear dalta ó 1AG páirt i gcomórtas SciFest i CIT. Comórtas eolaíochta is ea SciFest atá cosúil le Comórtas an Eolaí Óig. Bhí trí thionscnamh ag daltaí 1AG sa chomórtas. Rinne Paul Ó Riain staidéar ar “An féidir leictreachas a fháil ó thorthaí”. Chonaic sé gur féidir liomóin a úsáid in ionad an cheallaire atá in áireamhán. D’fhiosraigh Barra Ó Mátharbhuí agus Fionn Mac Dónaill “Cé chomh láidir gur féidir le duine tarraingt ar chamán”. Agus d’fhéach Gráinne Tirial agus Lauren Ní Ghiobúin ar “An structúr atá ag criostail comhdhúil éagsúla”.

D’éirigh go h-an mhaith leis na daltaí go léir. Iarradh orthu a bheith páirteach i ngrianghraf bolscaireachta leis an Aire Stait do thaighde agus Nuálaíocht Seán Sherlock

Mercier Press & School of History, UCC history essay competition

: Mercier Press & School of History, UCC history essay competition

On the 25th March, one of our 6th year Leaving Certificate students won a prize in the Mercier Press & School of History, UCC history essay competition. Emily Breslin won third prize for her work ‘The claymen Of Youghal’ at a special ceremony for all prize winners and their families in the council room UCC. Also in attendance from Pobalscoil was our principal Seamus O’Ceallachain and Emily’s history teacher Sylvia Pearson. The prizes were presented by Professor Geoffrey Roberts, Head of school of History.

Other students that entered the competition from our school were, Paula Cliffe, Lucas Brun and Shannon Walsh third year and Aoife Griffin from second year. Not everyone won prizes, however the effort put into all essays by these students was truly fantastic especially as most of them were preparing for exams at the time. They are all winners in our eyes. Well Done to them all!!!

TY Carrauntoohil Climb

Carrauntoohil is the highest peak in Ireland. Located in County Kerry, it is 1,038 metres high and is the central peak of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks range.

A group of 24 TY students, 4 Leaders and 5 teachers left Youghal at 7.30am and returned at 9.30pm. We were highly prepared with proper equipment, maps, compasses, mobile phones and colourful clothing.

We set off from Cronins yard and crossed two rivers. It was a long walk to the foot of the mountain but the walk was breath taking. There are three paths to the top we took the most difficult up the devils ladder. We came back down a route called the zig zag.

The highest mountain in Ireland, the most punishing in terms of weather and effort. The payoff when we reached the top was beyond satisfying.

The group left no trace on the mountain only their footprints in the snow at the summit of Carrauntoohil.

Adam Molone wins Midleton 5 mile race

Adam Malone recently won the Midleton five mile juvenile category
There was a field of close to 600 runners. Congratulations from all at Pobalscoil. Best of luck in the Emer Casey run.

Pobalscoil 1st year ladies football team who took part in a blitz in April. The girls played really well but were unlucky to progress. A special thanks to TY helpers on the day Rachel Galvin and Sarah Roche.

A representative from Colaiste Cathal Naofa, Dungarvan will speak to interested 6th year students on their Fetac level 5 and 6 courses on Tuesday 21st May at 13.50pm in R2/03. Courses include Beauty therapy, Sport and Recreation, Childcare, Nursing studies, Community Care, Accountancy Technician, Administration and Business Studies

For the attention of the parents of 5th Year students with SEN:

The deadline for applying to the State Exams Commission for Reasonable
Accommodations in the Leaving Cert 2014 is MONDAY 20th May 2013.

The SEN Dept are in the process of completing updated tests and application forms for 5th Year students who may be eligible for a Reader, Spelling Waiver, Scribe, Separate Centre or use of a Laptop, etc.

ALL 5th Year students were given information sheets last week to bring home. It is essential that any student who believes they may be eligible to apply for help make an appointment with Ms Cusack or Ms Cuddigan to complete an application form without delay.

Students over the age of 18 are required to sign the application form themselves.

NB: Please note that being granted Reasonable Accommodations for the Junior Cert DOES NOT guarantee Accommodations at Leaving Cert level.
