Accounting involves the preparation of Final Accounts – of Sole Traders,
Manufacturing Firms, Departmental Firms, Companies, Farms, Clubs and Service
Firms.
Other topics include:
Assessment of a Business, Cash Flow Statements, Published Accounts and
Management Accounting (Costing – Budgets).
Students must have studied Junior Certificate Business Studies in order to take
Accounting for Leaving Certificate. Transition Year Accounting is not a sufficient
foundation for Leaving Certificate
Assessment
A terminal 3 hour written paper – Higher and Ordinary Level
Section 1 1Q (x 120 marks) or 2Qs (x60 marks) from Q2, Q3, Q4
Section 2 (2 x 100 marks) from 3 Questions
Section 3 (1 x 80 marks) from 2 Questions
Careers with Accounting
Essential for a career as an Auditor, Budget Analyst, Financial Accountant,
Management Accountant, Tax Accountant/Consultant.
Accountants work in Private Accounting Firms, Government Agencies and
Departments, Public Companies, Banks and Co-Ops.
Certified Accountants also work as Sole Traders or in Partnerships providing
Accountancy Services to small businesses, farms etc.
